“…one of the most gripping live performances I have heard.”
The centrepiece of the 2015 Festival was the performance of Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah in Southwell Minster which, to Sunday Times critic Hugh Canning, “sounded like the innovative dramatic oratorio it must have seemed to audiences at Birmingham’s Town Hall in 1846”.
The selection of online highlights from the 2015 Southwell Music Festival for the Twelve Days of Christmas begins with the opening of this great work – in a performance which was unforgettably dramatic from the initial declamation of baritone Andrew Foster-Williams in the title role.
Hugh Canning described the Festival’s Elijah as “…one of the most gripping live performances I have heard.”
The 2016 Festival takes place from 25-29 August. The programme will be launched at a special concert on Friday 18th March at 7.30pm in Southwell Minster.
