A Christmas Celebration

A programme of seasonal words and choral music that is both atmospheric and entertaining – from celebrations of Christmases long past to the present day. The Southwell Festival Voices will be conducted by Artistic Director Marcus Farnsworth.

This year there will be a special focus on the music of 20th century English composer Herbert Howells, including his evocative and well-known carols ‘A Spotless Rose’, ‘Here is the little door’ and ‘Long, long ago’.

This seasonal music will be complemented by evocative readings of poetry and prose and we’re pleased to welcome back actor Clive Mantle to Southwell Minster to be our reader for the evening.

Christmas Concert

Christmas is not complete without top quality choral singing and choirs don’t come much better than the outstanding Southwell Festival Voices – the Festival’s professional choir making their first Christmas appearance.  The conductor is the Festival’s Artistic Director Marcus Farnsworth.

The programme is a celebration of Christmas through the ages in words and music: the music ranges from the mediaeval Hildegard of Bingen to Irving Berlin and includes a range of traditional carols too. The seasonal readings in poetry and prose are by leading TV and film actor David Oakes.

Tickets priced at £20, £15, £10 are now only available in person at the Cathedral Shop, Southwell or on the door at the concert.
