ELIJAH Andrew FW c Paul Foster-Williams

The Minster is the perfect place to perform this vivid account of episodes from the life of the prophet Elijah – one of the great Old Testament figures. Mendelssohn’s dramatic oratorio combines his admiration for the great choral works of Bach and Handel with his early romantic genius in writing for voices and orchestra: it has been a choral favourite since a triumphant first performance at Birmingham Town Hall in 1846. This spectacular evening of earthquake, wind and fire will be brought to life by our professional orchestra and chorus and a distinguished team of young soloists led by one of Britain’s most admired bass-baritones – Andrew Foster-Williams – who takes the title role.
