Schwanengesang (“Swansong”) is a collection of songs written by Franz Schubert at the end of his life and published posthumously. While the songs have much in common thematically and musically, there is no narrative thread and it is not clear whether Schubert ever intended that they should be performed together. Whatever his intentions, Schwanengesang contains some of Schubert’s most inspired and haunting music.
