For the Second Day of Christmas – divine Mozart

We hope you enjoyed yesterday’s opening instalment of our 12 Days of Christmas series in which we are presenting twelve highlights from the inaugural 2014 Southwell Music Festival.

Now welcome to Day Two of the Southwell Micro Midwinter Music Festival Online. Today we offer not turtle doves but mellifluous Mozart – the end of the finale of his Quintet for piano and winds in E flat K452.

This formed the centrepiece of our opening Chamber Classics concert in the State Chamber on Friday 22 August which began with Mendelssohn’s Octet and closed with Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer Op. 52.

The performers are Lucie Sprague (oboe), David Campbell (clarinet), Lorna West (bassoon), Nicolas Fleury (horn) and James Baillieu (piano).  The recording producer is Alex Barnes .

One audience member said: “Friday’s Chamber Classics was sublime.  The professionalism, energy and delight in playing together in a very well thought out programme, was evident.  We are still in Seventh Heaven!!”
